Haiti - Politic : Michel Martelly met the President of Brazil Dilma Rousseff

During his meeting with his Brazilian counterpart, Dilma Rousseff, as part of XXII Iberoamerican summit of Heads of State and Government, the President Michel Martelly, has expressed his concern for agricultural development, talked about the institutionalization of democracy in Haiti and thanked the President of Brazil for its support to the country's stability via its supportto the United Nations Mission for Stability in Haiti (Minustah). Brazil has promised to act with the United Nations, to plan the withdrawal of the Minustah, in a way to protect the interests of Haiti.

In regard to the formation of Electoral Council, the President Martelly assured Dilma Rousseff, of efforts made by the Executive, for the holding of elections, according to democratic standards. He also stressed the need for intensified cooperation in the agricultural sector, including through the support of the Brazilian Government to the Ministry of Agriculture. Brazil, which has responded positively, already considering the possibility of working jointly with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).

The two Heads of State also agreed on a new orientation of the Project 4C [Project of $192 million on the Artibonite River]. The President of the Republic hoped that the money for this project [funded largely by Brazil] can be used for work in the watershed, since IDB study found the cost of the project, more than what was expected.
