Three months since its installation August 8, 2012, at the head of the municipal council, the Interim Executive Agent of the town of Jacmel, Mayor Paul Hughes, gave a glowing report of the work already done by the mayor of the city.

The mayor stated that his first month was dedicated to the repair of vehicles enabling the waste disposal service to operate and then he embarked on the remediation of the city, which was previously done in slow motion due to weaknesses within the institution...

There are more than four years that the cemetery of Jacmel is in a state of disrepair, this place, which is the final resting place of human beings, was also used by people as landfill because of numerous openings in the wall. Faced with this situation, the mayor has commissioned of ehabilitation works of the enclosure wall, before proceeding with development work within the cemetery, which according to him, is part of one of the heritage of the city.

In addition, the first citizen of the town of Jacmel, insisted on the construction of the newlaughterhouse of the city, which was in a very critical condition and worked outside the health standards.

In order to ensure a better management of the slaughterhouse, after the new construction ongoing, of measures will be adopted by the municipality, which will assume the control of all activities of the slaughterhouse "Health officers of Departmental Office of Public Health Southeast will be present at slaughter animals in order to examine them, in particular, cattle, goats and pigs. At a time when the city of Jacmel, evolves in terms of tourism, the meat trade must be taken care by the authorities [...]" declared Paul Hughes.

The mayor indicated that the rehabilitation of the cemetery wall and the construction of the slaughterhouse, are part of the greatest achievements since his arrival at City Hall, stating that the municipality of Jacmel had received for this work, the financial support of the European Union.

The Mayor appealed to the solidarity of all state institutions at the departmental level, including the Departmental Health Bureau, the Regional Office of Environment and the Departmental Directorate of the Ministry of planning to get involved in the struggle to solve the sanitation problem that confronts the town of Jacmel. Mr. Hugues Paul also invited the population to play an oversight role on the work of the town hall.
