Thursday, Jean-François Thomas, who worked several years in the Ministry of Environment and led among other things, the brigade of environmental monitoring, was installed in office by Thomas Jacques, Minister of Agriculture in the absence of Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, who is currently at the 43rd Economic Forum in Davos (Switzerland). He replaces to this position the outgoing Minister Jean Vilmont Hilaire, who was absent during the installation.

After the customary exchange of courtesies, the new Minister declared "The predators of the environment in Haiti are legions [...] Some destroy the environmentjust by seeking to survive, while others, irreducible and arrogant, do not care. Whatever the reason, we need to stop the current deterioration," affirming that he will act with severity to fight against this plague and promised solutions by implementing measures "to counter environmental degradation."

We will make efforts to find solutions to these problems, through education, reforestation and environmental monitoring [...] it is necessary that every young of country, as every employee of the Ministry, sees himself as a protector of the environment [...]"
