Monday, the authorities in the South East of the Ministry of Tourism launched the program of classification of tourist establishments in Jacmel, in the presence of members of the Municipal Board of the city. 21 agents of the Ministry will undertake the inspection of accommodation centers of the region in order to assess their operating condition.

Initiated in Les Cayes April 2, the program of classification of tourist establishments aims at accompanying the private sector tourism operators in the improvement of the quality of services they offer to their customers.

The Ministry of Tourism, in its tourism policy to bring tourists to Haiti, based, inter alia, on the axis of the regulation of the sector which is an indicator referential. To this end, the Ministry intends sanction by the label "Hibiscus" the functioning and quality of services provided by the establishments inspected, the label "Hibiscus" in Haiti will replace the traditional star classifying the quality of operation of hotels. 5 hibiscus and 1 hibiscus will express respectively the maximum and minimum quality of tourist facilities.

Let us recall that 10 inspectors of the Ministry of Tourism have already done in south of the country, from 3 to 7 April 2013, an inspection tour of nearly 90 establishments (hotels and restaurants), applying a set of criteria developed by experts in the classification of tourist establishments. According to the inspectors, the operators inspected were very cooperative with regard to certain recommendations made during the inspection process.

After the Southeast, the Ministry will head on the North and North-East of the country and finally the West Department.
