The Ministry of Tourism, through its Departmental Office North, proceeded earlier this week, to the launch of program of classification of tourist facilities in the departments of North and North-East, a program that aims to improve the quality of services offered by the private sector tourism operators. Two departments (South and East) have already been affected by this program.

The program classification of tourist facilities, is part of one of the functions of the Ministry of Tourism, which is to support the tourism sector, it also aims to encourage operators to provide better service to their customers in order to better sell the Haitian tourism product.

A team composed of 10 investigators trained by the Ministry, undertake inspection visits in the various institutions of the region. The work of these agents consists in a collection of information on the state of operation of these facilities "The identification, inspection, information processing and the production of specifications," are the main steps of the first phase of this program," said an official.

The Ministry intends to sanction the operation of establishments inspected by the quality label "Hibiscus" depending on the quality of services provided. Hibiscus in Haiti will replace the traditional star indicating the performance of the hotels. In this new scheme, 5 hibiscus and one hibiscus will express respectively the maximum and minimum quality of services offered by tourist establishments.

This launching day in the North was marked by a series of information meetings with hoteliers, restaurateurs, and the main authorities of the departments of the North and Northeast.
