Haiti - Social: 26 undocumented Haitians arrested in the Dominican Republic

The Fourth Dominican Infantry Brigade of Mao (North East), informed that it had apprehended two vehicles carrying to Santiago de Los Caballeros (North), 26 Haitian in irregular situation. Military interventions took place between cities of Castañuelas and las Matas de Santa Cruz and nearby military checkpoint of Manga, n the province of Monte Cristi, at the Haitian border.

Dominican authorities have indicated that in a vehicle driven by a Dominican, who escaped, found illegally present 20 Haitian migrants (6 men, 8 women and 6 children). The second vehicle carrying illegally 6 other Haitians, was stopped at the checkpoint of Mangá. Johnny Jean, the Haitian-born driver was arrested.

The Fourth Brigade reported that Haitian nationals were handed over to immigration authorities of Dajabón (North West), which have proceeded to their repatriation to Haiti. The military authorities have revealed that the Haitian driver was handed over to the public prosecutor and the search continued to find the Dominican driver to send it also before the court.

The Haitians that came from Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haitien, respectively paid between 5,500 pesos (± U.S. $ 135) and 7,300 pesos (± 175 dollars) to make the clandestine trip, until Santiago.
