Haiti - Tourism : Prime Minister in Ile-à-Vache for a supervision visit

This Tuesday, August 20, 2013, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, accompanied among others by Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism and Charles Jean-Jacques, Minister of Social Affairs will visit the Ile-à-Vache, in the Southern Department, to inquire about the progress of infrastructure work undertaken in the region as part of an ambitious tourism development project called "Destination Ile-à-Vache".

Major infrastructure projects are underway, including the construction of the access road, the construction of an international airport with a runway of 2,400 m [official start of construction planned this Tuesday]. The development of Ile-à-Vache where are conducted geophysical testing and drilling, will require local and foreign investments. The proposals are in the study phase, of analysis to the Ministry of Tourism.

"Destination Ile-à-Vache", is one of the most ambitious projects of the quinquennium of President Martelly, which includes, among others, the construction towards 2015 of an international airport, a shopping center, a golf course with 18 holes and 1,000 hotel rooms. The total project cost is estimated at $230 million.

On the Agenda of the Prime Minister

The Haitian government, intends makes of the Ile-à-Vache an important center of tourism and economic development likely to attract a flood of local and foreign tourists. In this sense, the Administration Martelly and the Government Lamothe are mobilizing to find the necessary resources to make this island the largest tourist destination in the Caribbean.
