Haiti - Politic : Minister Oda to attend inauguration of haitian President

The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, Minister of International Cooperation, will attend the Haitian presidential inauguration of Michel Martelly in Port-au-Prince on behalf of Canada on May 14, 2011.

Speaking on behalf of the Government of Canada, Minister Oda stated, "Canada remains committed to the people of Haiti in achieving their goals of reconstruction, jobs and growth, democratic governance and security. We look forward to working with Mr. Martelly toward a better future for the people of Haiti."

After the earthquake, Canada pledged $400 million over two years to help rebuild Haiti. This figure brings Canada’s total multiyear commitment (from 2006 to 2012) in Haiti to $1 billion.
