Haiti - Politic : UNASUR reiterates its commitment of support and solidarity with Haiti

This week, foreign ministers, member of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) have ratified in a resolution adopted by the General Council met in special session to Buenos Aires, their commitment of support and solidarity with Haiti, particularly to the institutional, food security and housing.

In addition, the Council of UNASUR has decided to extend until August 31, 2012, the mandate of the Technical Secretariat of UNASUR-Haiti, which the holder is the Ambassador Rodolfo Mattarollo.

They also called on Member States to continue to fulfill the commitments with Haiti, taken in Quito on February 9, 2010, about their contributions to the Solidarity Fund of UNASUR.

The Ministers also welcomed the outcome of the meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors held on August 12 to Buenos Aires, which reiterated the willingness of governments and the capacity of UNASUR to meet the challenges throughout the international economic crisis.

During this extraordinary session, the creation of a Regional Electoral Council has been assessed, said Nicolas Maduro, Venezuelan Minister of Foreign Affairs. The diplomat declared that one of the objectives of this new body, will be to evaluate and compare the different electoral processes taking place in Latin America, this will help to strengthen the mechanisms and the electoral experiences and encourage further progress towards a more developed democracy.
