The President Michel Martelly accompanied by several Senators had Tuesday, September 27, 2011, a meeting with a delegation of the Club de Madrid composed of: Joe Clark, former Prime Minister of Canada, Cassam Utem, former President of the Republic of Mauritius, Maria Elena Aguero, Deputy Secretary General of the Club, Juan Gabriel Valdés, former UN official, Nacho Espinosa, former Programme Officer, Club of Madrid and Sandra Dorzin, local experts of Club de Madrid.

The main purpose of this fifth mission in Haiti, according to Juan Gabriel Valdés, is to support the Presidentand to share with him their experiences as statesmen. Mr. Cassam Utem of Mauritius said that the Club de Madrid wants to be available for the President Martelly by providing all possible support from their personal experience.

Rodolphe Joazile who attended this meeting indicated "...the Club of Madrid is a club which is composed of former Prime Minister and President [...] we have a long tradition of working with them and now they wanted to sit with us, to share their experience with us and vice versa, both on the functioning of Senate that on the relationship between the Senate and the Executive, between the Senate and the judiciary and other actors of civil society.

We shared our ideas [...] we talk about our experiences, our frustrations and how we operate. [...] the Senator Kély Bastien presented the general framework of the functioning of the Senate [...] the Senator Edmonde Beauzile presented the experiences and daily life of the parliamentarians Deputies and Senators, the Senators François Anik Joseph et Jocelerme Privert also made interventions. It was an opportunity for all senators to explain to members of the Club of Madrid, to the delegation how the Senate works, the report of the Senate with the other branch of government, legislative, judicial, executive and civil society... Although they are not of the International community itself, [...] we asked them, that they plead for us [this question] within their government."
