Wednesday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Laurent Lamothe explained that the new Haitian diplomacy will focus on three components.

"...The first component, is the cooperation, we want that the cooperation join the people, we want that the people joining what is given. We want that the cooperation goes directly, because today, the assistance is channeled through structures that are not government structures nd we do not necessarily what we seek. The government needs resources to build schools, repair roads, health clinics and to reduce insecurity. To afford, we need that the assistance we receive, is done directly or at least, that a large part come join us.

The second component of the Haitian diplomacy, is to make sure that the aid promises become a reality. There are countries that have given, and other not... We are currently developing a database, to see all the countries that have not yet given, and we will make visits to these countries to encourage them to give what they have promised to give.

The final component is to attract private investment, why? Because in Haiti, we have an unemployment rate of over 60%, we need to lower the unemployment rate. To decrease, we need to create jobs, [...] we need that companies from abroad come to settle in Haiti and begin to create jobs.

Tuesday, we were with the Diplomatic Corps, with the international community, we told them that it is important that they come, that they invite their families to take vacations in Haiti, that they begin to give a different image, invest themselves in the country, that they tell their friends to invest in Haiti, and then we will tell to the promotion agencies who are in their country, to the chambers of commerce, to the businessmen that Haiti is now open for investment.

This is the message that the President of the Republic gives wherever he goes 'Haiti is open for Business' the same message i use, every time I encounter an Ambassador, an international mission. My role is to promote Haiti and to attract investment to Haiti..."
