Michel Martelly, the President of the Republic, arrived in Havana (Cuba) on Tuesday November 15. The Head of State is at the head of an important delegation composed among others of the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Health, Agriculture, Environment, Education, Youth and Sports and of Plan ; of President of the Commission of Foreign Affairs of the Senate and that of the Commission of Foreign Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies.

The Haitian delegation was welcomed on the tarmac by the Haitian Ambassador accredited to Cuba, Mr. Jean Généus and the Cuban Vice Minister of Foreign Rogelo Sierra.

Working meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador

In the afternoon, the ministers Laurent Lamothe, Hébert Docteur, Florence Duperval Guillaume and Ronald Toussaint have had a working meeting with the Norwegian Ambassador accredited to Haiti with residence in Havana, Mr. John Petter Opdahl. Discussions revolved particularly around the creation of alternative energy sources in order to curb the problem of deforestation.

Meeting with 17 ambassadors

In the evening, the President Martelly and the Chancellor Lamothe, assisted of Senator Wencesclas Lambert and of deputy Alteste Toussaint have had a fruitful meeting with 17 ambassadors accredited in Haiti, with residence in Havana. This meeting was the occasion for the Minister of Foreign Affairs to present the vision of President Martelly to the diplomats. Mr. Lamothe asked the ambassadors to encourage investors of their country to settle in Haiti, recalling that the country is open to foreign investors.

The visit of the Haitian delegation to Cuba is part of strengthening of the diplomatic relations between the two countries and the exploration of new areas of cooperation.
