Haiti - Ancestors' Day : Official Tribute to the Fathers of the Fatherland (Video) 03/01/2025 06:56:43
Thursday, January 2nd, 2024 at the Villa d'Accueil, as part of the commemoration of Ancestors' Day, the ceremony marked by solemnity was a moment of reflection on the legacy of the heroes of 1804 and on the importance of preserving the ideals of independence and sovereignty that they bequeathed to us. Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, who accompanied the members of the Presidential Transitional Council (CPT), in the presence of the highest authorities of the State, Ministers, Directors General, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H) and the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), recalled the profound significance of this day, a symbol of our common struggle for freedom and national dignity. He urged citizens to draw on the example of courage and resilience of their ancestors to face current challenges, particularly those related to insecurity and instability. “This day is a call to reconnect with our roots, to strengthen our unity and to build a strong and prosperous Haiti,” he said. He also stressed the dual mission of this commemoration: to honor the past and renew our commitment to the future. “Celebrating Forefathers’ Day is to claim the legacy of justice and freedom left by the nation’s founders, while working to consolidate a future worthy of their sacrifices.”
In his speech, Leslie Voltaire, President pro tempore of the Transitional Council, paid tribute to the memory of the Ancestors who fought for our freedom and promised to put an end to the insecurity that prevents people from moving and working freely. "[...] Today we draw on their courage and genius to declare war on the gang that threatens our Nation, may the spirit of Toussaint Louverture guide us through his strategy, his diplomacy and his talent to form an invincible army, may the audacity of Jean-Jacques Dessaline, intrepid founder and brilliant tactician inspire us to attack relentlessly and win every battle Let us follow the example of Henri Christophe, tireless builder and master of logistics who knew how to organize, supply and protect these troops with rigor. Let's pay tribute to Alexandre Pétion, elite artilleryman, visionary and defender of the oppressed, whose wisdom and commitment not only inspired his troops but also supported the liberation of Latin America and the fight against slavery [...] Today we swear to follow in their footsteps, united, disciplined and determined to build a future of Peace, freedom and security for our people and for all peoples who love justice [...]" Speech by President Leslie Voltaire on the Occasion of Ancestors' Day : SL/ HaitiLibre
