2025 : A year of war against gangs

First police officer killed in 2025

A police officer was killed Sunday evening in Delmas 39, Port-au-Prince, Haiti, by unidentified armed bandits. The victim was identified as Jean Woody Vilmont, an agent of the 28th class, assigned to the Financial Affairs Directorate (BAF) of the Judicial Police (DCPJ). He is the first police officer killed in 2025.

UEH : Sharp increase in enrollment

Strong increase in enrollment (+92.5%) at the State University of Haiti (UEH), which recorded at the beginning of December 2024 : 26,691 enrollments for the 2024-2025 academic year, compared to 13,860 for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Fire at the La Coupe market
