Haiti - Politic : UEH wants to be at the forefront in the fight against corruption

At the inaugural conference of the Anti-Corruption Summer School of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), the Rector of the State University of Haiti (UEH), Dieuseul Prédélus, delivered a speech on the theme "The Role of the University in Exposing Corruption."

From the outset, Dr. Prédélus emphasized that corruption is not limited to a legal or administrative issue, but constitutes an existential threat to the nation.

Reflecting on the mission of the UEH, the Rector emphasized the institution's educational, critical, and social vocation. "As a public institution, the UEH is fully aware of its duty to the Republic. Our mission is not limited to teaching courses. We must train citizens who must fight corruption in the country [...]

"We encourage researchers working in the various laboratories of our faculties to consider the topic of corruption as a research theme, as an object of study. Research that will be likely to evaluate corrupt practices in public and private administration, which do not always seem perceptible and understandable to everyone."

In the spirit of continuity, the Rector Prédélus announced a project for a strengthened partnership with the ULCC. "We propose to collaborate with the ULCC on a project aimed at making corruption a priority research area in one of our laboratories. Other measures could follow, including the establishment of support funds for undergraduate, master's, and doctoral dissertations," adding, "We could even consider creating a university chair on corruption. Such a chair would open up new perspectives on this pressing issue in our society."

Beyond these prospects, the UEH has already begun to take concrete action, particularly through its partnership with the National Commission for Public Procurement. "We have been able to train more than 150 young people on public procurement. Furthermore, some training programs at the UEH already include specific courses on corruption, such as the Master's in Criminal Law and Criminal Sciences, which offers a course on economic and financial crimes."
