On Tuesday, September 22, 2026, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Foreign Minister Raina Forbin met with her Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand.

This meeting allowed the two Ministers to discuss the main challenges facing Haiti, including the restoration of security, the organization of upcoming elections, and the humanitarian situation, as well as Canada’s continued support for the Haitian government’s efforts.

During the meeting, Minister Anand announced new funding of $25.4 million from Canada to support security, governance, and community resilience in Haiti. This funding will support efforts to combat corruption and organized crime, prevent the recruitment of young people by gangs, strengthen responses to gender-based violence, and support local peacebuilding initiatives.

Minister Forbin welcomed this announcement and expressed the Haitian government's gratitude for Canada's continued solidarity with the Haitian people.

Discussions also focused on the need to renew and fully deploy the Gang Supression Force (GSF) and on efforts to strengthen the security response in Haiti. Minister Forbin emphasized the importance of continued support from international partners for efforts to restore security and create the conditions necessary for the country's stability.

The meeting also reaffirmed the commitment of Haiti and Canada to continue their dialogue and strengthen their cooperation, particularly regarding security, institutional stability, and improving the living conditions of the Haitian population.
